So here we are again, back in Castlepoint, post-lockdown. We’d spent a night in a cabin here on our trip a few months ago, just before the country went into lockdown. This time we are back in a hire camper van for the night.

All went well with the pick up and drive to Castlepoint. The camper is bigger than we thought it would be, but L soon go into the swing of driving it. Very comfortable seats for driver and passenger, although one does feel a bit regal sitting up so high, and it is rather noisy. The living quarters are also roomy for two people. L will give you all the details at some later stage.

We had the odd shower during the drive but nothing heavy –nothing like the downpours back in Wellington overnight and yesterday. We got to the camping ground about three and being the only campers here, we had our choice of spots. So here we are parked up near the brow of the hill looking over the ocean towards the lighthouse. Brilliant spot.

This evening we went for a walk along to the crayfish boats. Dusk was falling but the village shop and café was open so we ordered some chips and sausages to go, and ate them as we wandered alongside the beach. Perfect. Nothing better than well-cooked freshly cooked hot chips with just the right amount of salt on them.

Dusk had turned to darkness while we were waiting for our meal to be cooked. The wind had dropped, the rain was gone, and it was pleasantly mild. We were treated to a lighthouse light show, both the beam of the lighthouse sweeping out to sea and the changing colours projected on to the tower. All very magical. We do like Castlepoint.
