And suddenly, it’s Spring. On the calendar at least. And yesterday we had the most brilliant sunny calm day to mark the new season. Warm enough even to have coffee outside.
Yesterday also marked the move down the Covid levels to level 3, at least for those parts of the country south of the Auckland border. It makes little difference to us — Level 4 with takeaways, as it’s commonly known. I wonder how long it will be before we succumb to temptation and have a takeaway coffee. Other than that, little change to the routine, the highlight of which (apart from the daily Covid update) is the daily walk. I am immensely grateful for the relative normality of our lives, given the situation of so many others in the country and indeed the world.
The Auckland outbreak seems to be stabilising. The number of new cases has fluctuated in the past few days, but the R-number (number of people an infected person will pass the virus on to) is below 1. As of yesterday’s update, there were 75 new cases, one in Wellington, the rest in Auckland. The total number of active cases in the community was 672. We await today’s update with interest.
