We started our Wellington staycation with a walk to the Baring Head lighthouse in the East Harbour Regional Park, accessed from the Wainuiomata Coast Road. As it turned out, we didn’t make it to the lighthouse but instead opted to walk to the river mouth — this to avoid the worst of the gale force winds, which even in relatively sheltered areas were fierce. Next time we head for the lighthouse, we’ll start earlier in the day. Even so, it was a decent walk. Some of the downward paths were freshly shingled and slippy, which I found a bit of a challenge. But a driftwood stick from the beach helped with the return. Beautiful land and seascapes. Here’s some photos. . . .
