Castlepoint

April 18, 2022

Easter Monday, and what better way to spend it than a trip to Castlepoint. No particular reason other than it is a great place to visit, whatever the time of year. Today it was fine and warm (17 degrees) but extremely windy. There has been some big weather recently which has taken out the start of the path to Castle Rock (other end of beach to the lighthouse). People were clambering their way up to the remaining steps but we decided to leave it to the young folk and instead enjoy a stroll along the beach. Love the rock formations, the sea, and the way the sand gets blown along the beach – luckily at beach level, so no sand-blasted faces when walking into the wind. We didn’t go up to the lighthouse this trip; that can wait till the next visit.

On another note, the autumn trees in the Wairarapa are beautiful – reds, yellows and browns of varying intensity. Something we don’t see on this scale in Wellington.

And finally, just to bring things up to date, we now have a caravan which we use as our bach in the Wairarapa for quick and easy getaways from Wellington. I’ll give more details of our hut on wheels in later posts. For today, here’s some photos from Castlepoint.

Interesting rock formations

Hm. Maybe I need to crop this to get less sand and more me.
