Bob and Dottie go to Devonport

June 17, 2023

The day started out fine, and we started out with a coffee and pain au chocolat at a Britomart cafe, maybe 10 minutes walk from our accommodation. After getting our Hop cards — needed to use our gold cards for free transport — we headed for Devonport. This was as much to get in a ferry ride as it was to visit the seaside suburb, but we had fun. The highlight was the naval museum, which is an excellent museum, well presented, informative, and, with regard to its war and conflict exhibits, touching. It was definitely worth the visit.

By the time we reached Devonport it was drizzling and that’s how it stayed until late afternoon. But it wasn’t heavy and it wasn’t cold so we were happy to be out and about. Once we were back in the city, we finished the day with a walk around the viaduct, where L (aka Bob — I’ll explain another time} told me more than I’ll ever need to know about this and that yacht. I’m sure he’ll fill you in on the details.

All in all, it was a good day’s walking. I was very happy when my new fitbit told me I was an overachiever with the number of steps I’d managed.

Here’s a few random photos from the day The blue dog-person was in a gallery window in Devonport. The white building is the Sea Scout headquarters. The black boat house is part of the museum, but unfortunately was closed. The next two are also at the museum in Torpedo Bay, and the last one is Devonport ferry pier on the Auckland side.
