Today’s little jaunt was to Hobsonville Point, a 30 minute ferry ride to the new suburb at the former airforce base.
Not a particularly early up and away today; we were both feeling the effects of yesterday’s outing. For our first coffee of the morning, we went back to Espresso Workshop in Britomark, before heading on to the downtown ferry terminal. We had planned on a trip to Pine Harbour, but we missed the ferry by a whisker. So, instead we decided to catch whichever ferry left next (except for Devonport), which happened to be to Hobsonville Point.
It was a good choice. There’s a five kilometre coastal walk and the separate Didsbury Art Trail. We opted for the coastal walk, which does also intersect with parts of the sculpture trail. Our walk started in sunshine but about half way around, the clouds loomed dark and the rain followed not long after. It wasn’t cold, the showers weren’t heavy, andthe rain jackets coped okay. By the time we were back at the ferry terminal in Catalina Bay, the rain had stopped.
Hobsonville Point has been planned with plenty of consideration for walkers, cyclists, dog owners, children, and the doddery. I was taken with the community garden, and enjoyed the sculpures that we saw along the way. Plus, it was good to see mangroves again. All in all, a grand day out.

PS. Yay for the Crusaders making the final.
