One lost, one won

In contemplation . . .

October 15, 2023

Lost one, won one . . . and that doesn’t include the Silver Ferns v the Diamonds in the second game of the Constellation Cup series — which at time of writing has not yet been played.

But yay for the ABs, that’s all I can say. That game this morning – it had it all. I didn’t need my Fitbit to tell me my heart rate was way up, especially in those last nail-biting ten minutes. The win against Ireland sure took the edge of last night’s disappointing election results. Three years. Sigh.  And yes, I realise, given the result, I’m in a minority. It’ll be interesting to see what effect the special vote count will have, and whether NZF gets to be the brake it promised. Also, I’m pleased for the Greens’ electoral gains, even though they lose a seat at the policy table.

But enough. I was going to add my two bobs’ worth on reasons why Labour did so poorly, but it’s late and L will probably say more than enough for us both. So instead, here’s a quick summary of our day.

It was, by and large, a rest day. We were marginally late checking out of our cabin in Blenheim, thanks to watching the ABs live screened on the small screen. Many other folks in the motor camp were doing the same, judging by the shouts, and beaming smiles after.

From there it was on to Kaikoura, where we lazed away the afternoon in the luxury of a spacious motel studio. Expensive, yes, but budget-wise we are still on track thanks to the more basic accommodation up till now. It also gave us the opportunity to do a load of washing and, with the help of a brisk wind, to get it dry. It wasn’t quite desperate stakes in the clean clothes department, but choices were getting limited. Later this afternoon we did a decent enough walk along the coast to just past Fyffe House, on the site of the former whaling station. Seagulls and scenery abounded.
