It’s not a road trip without a road shot or several. So here we are, somewhere on SHI between Blenheim and Kaikoura. This section of road gets me every time. I love the hills from Blenheim and the coast along to Kaikoura. And every time I take way too many photos through the windows. Who cares about the blurrs and smudges and reflections. Nothing captures the spirit of a road trip more than a road shot. In my opinion.
So. It was up before dawn this morning to make it over the hill in good time to catch the ferry to Picton. Sparrow fart, in fact. As it happened we could have left somewhat later and still made it, as the crossing was delayed by an hour. But it gave us time to pick up a coffee and bite to eat from a nearby coffee cart. And the crossing was smooth, something I was grateful for given the recent problems besetting the Connemara.
From there it was on to Kaikoura where we are overnighting before heading further south on a trip to visit friends and family (though you maybe don’t all know about it yet). It was a long day but a quiet day, and it will be an early night. It’s been cold but fine for the most part. A bit of rain as we were coming in to Kaikoura but not enough to stop us having a decent walk round the point and back. Here’s a few photos.
