Measured in coffee stops

Leaving Kaikoura

17 October 2024

It was a leisurely drive to Timaru yesterday, with frequent stops along the way for coffee or a bit of a walk to stretch the legs–I’m still having a bit of back trouble. As always it was nice to be travelling along the Kaikoura coast and the North Canterbury hill country. We stopped at Cheviot for a coffee and wondered where our coffee plungers from a previous trip had ended up. The back story here is that after a coffee stop and a walk, we hopped in the car and drove off, leaving our coffee plungers on the roadside picnic table. So, yet another trip to a Briscoes sale.

The highlight of the day was dinner out at Zest Cafe last night with friends. Lots of laughter and catching up. I think, in retrospect, we were a bit noisy. Luckily we were in a corner at the back.

A few photos.

Coffee and croissants for breakfast in Kaikoura. He’s not in the photo, but a pesky seagull, no doubt a relative of Syd’s, was keen to share the croissants.
The safety nets above the reconstructed road following the Kaikoura earthquake.
We always enjoy the Kaikoura coastal strip of SH1. We’re approaching the first of the two road tunnels.
